I'm writing - i need to explain why the Nazis are chasing my MC's mum - about Estonia in 1941. Many Estonians actually welcomed the German occupation, because the then-current Russian occupation was close to genocidal. The Nazis (genocidal but not to Estonians) seemed the lesser of two evils. But-

From WIP (Latvia, late 1941) 1 As she watched the street a door opened and a German soldier emerged, backwards, still talking to a woman. He seemed to feel hung over. She seemed to feel short-changed. The soldier turned and caught sight of Leena, and walked reasonably steadily in her direction. -
