On the surface it feels like the same thing but what Nix gives you is a cast iron guarantee that either all your changes will be applied or none of them, and if they apply they’ll probably work. If they don’t you reboot and return to the old configuration unless you’re happy and tell it to stick.

Fwiw at least Rust has a fantastic culture of documentation. I sadly can't say the same about Nix, at least not at present
