Attitudes to tie-ins and working for hire HAVE shifted *greatly* in the past 15 years or so. It's gone from seeing a top genre author tie-in and thinking "wow, they must need money" (fairly or unfairly) to top talent viewing it as desirable work. Hack isn't as half -proud a word as it once was, too.

I’ve spent much of this discussion reminding people than fans aren’t a hivemind and will always possess a wide range of opinions on anything, and so I must also remind people that writers are also not a hivemind and possess a wide range of opinions on writing for IPs they don’t own.
