there’s a very amusing dynamic in NYC DSA right now where, in response to Zohran’s YIMBY policies, a bunch of right-wing NIMBY nutcases are joining DSA to try and take over the organization.

NIMBYs have seized upon this as a rhetoric tool, even if they don't realize it. People who don't want renters to have housing in residential neighbourhoods can get away with "well, we do want housing, just where it's appropriate on transit corridors." Politicians often don't catch this as a problem.

I've come to think of ADU legislation as the first fracture point in coalition-building. Irredeemable NIMBYs gonna NIMBY even here, but it exposes the persuadeable to the idea of distributed change (even if nothing is going to actually change all that much where the housing need is the greatest).
