This is why at the extreme end white nationalists often latch on to Safe Space policies by trying to create white pride communities and using liberal language to justify them - they recognise these things are power building for minorities and they can neutralise that by imitating it.

Gatekeeping isn't inherently good or bad, it's an activity which is subject to political contest over who gets to use space how. Spaces that are safe incubators for minority welfare and spaces for preserving dominant social hierarchies both depend on it and we need to be able to tell the difference.
