Yep. Almost every time I have to ask them to take the "in perpetuity" boilerplate lingo out. I think it's standard in contract templates, and not a surefire indicator of ill intent, but people definitely need to look for it.

I try to focus this account so it's for my readers, but hey writers: NEVER sign a contract where the publisher keeps your rights indefinitely. For short stories, there should be a point when you can sell reprints. and NEVER sign your movie/TV/etc adaptation rights to a publisher. Those are yours.

I think the hardest thing about this moment RIGHT NOW is that a whole lot of people I really really respect are either reading (if they snagged an early copy haha) or are about to read my book but almost nobody has actually read it yet so I'm just sitting here vibrating nervously and hopefully 24/7
