Certainly I’ve *never* encountered an elderly person on a mobility scooter who didn’t expect everyone else to get out of their way immediately and with zero notice. I try to be understanding but it’s hard when there’s absolutely no respect there.
Show PostI think part of it may be the ‘my vehicle is larger, therefore I have right of way’ attitude - you take someone off the roads (where they disdain pedestrians and other road users) and put them on a vehicle on the sidewalks (where they disdain pedestrians and other sidewalk users).
Show PostYou also see it with the elderly who’ve lost their drivers licenses and immediately get a mobility scooter. They’re too dangerous to be on the roads but it’s just fine for them to be on the footpath. I don’t have a solution - the elderly need to be mobile! - but it’s illustrative of just how …
Show Post… pedestrians absorb the negative externalities of other travellers.
