One of America’s original sins was slavery and the attendant racism lingering to this day. While certainly not confined to the Deepest, Dumbest parts of the MAGA South, it still flourishes there. Many would rather have terrible health care for themselves than provide it free to a person of color.

And, I don't have numbers to back it up, but, I believe employers would spend less money and man hours trying to provide coverage to employees. The company might pay higher taxes too, but the savings could potentially go towards higher salaries for employees.

Everyone screams about paying higher taxes, but they don't seem to mind paying insane amounts monthly for their health insurance. If we had universal healthcare, taxes wouldn't go up as much as the astronomical health insurance costs.
