In any future dispute over Northern Ireland, the EU will be obliged to take Ireland’s side. Before Brexit the EU remained neutral on the issue. If the UK is allowed to rejoin the EU, then that will change again. Is this why some Irish people are so anxious about the UK softening on Brexit?
