Every Sheffield cinema goer of a certain age will remember the ‘Zing Vaa’ Chinese Restaurant, whether or not they ate there. Indeed, I wonder if its existence is affirmed more in collective film-memory than any other way. Yes, they made the ad on film. I remember it as very red.
Show Postoh yes! Until about 10 years ago my local multiplex Brussels used to have one like that advertising a bar across the road. Would MUCH rather watch those in place of the infuriating car/cola/hamburger ones they have now.
Show PostUsually time it so I arrive just as the ads finish. But occasionally UGC does a dirty & starts the film only 5 minutes after the advertised time, instead of the usual 10. I have seen every ad a milliion billion times & I hate them all & the products they're flogging (cars, cola etc) with a passion.
Show PostRANSON’S FOLLY (1926) is the most typoed silent film by far and incredibly odd and out of step for its era. It’s about a soldier posted to a quiet fort after slaughtering Indigenous people in droves and he’s bored, poor lamb, so he fakes stagecoach robberies for kicks.
Show PostO’Connor and Kelly are so good together: the mutual respect between two dancers, Cosmo’s loving pisstaking, their characters’ commitment to just being very silly
