Any filmmaker approaching Star Wars while taking all the criticisms of proper storytelling to heart have failed before they begun (at least by this single metric). You don’t recreate the Star Wars vibe by making it “better” or “fixing” it. You look at its warts AND YOU TAKE NOTES.

Ah, the joy of rewriting something in a way that’s not only a better read, but is 140 words instead of 384. Original: Lots of world building, a little protagonist characterization. New: Basically the same amount of world building, much clearer characterization.

I don’t have a problem with intentionally offensive humor. Pierce on Community is an example. He is an intentionally offensive character. An important detail, however, is the audience isn’t meant to think he’s right, or ”telling it like it is.”

One reason I have this hypothesis is simply how I see people interact online when they lack context for who they're talking to (strangers talking to strangers on social media). The default assumption does NOT seem to be "well, it's only natural we won't have the same information" 😬
