Show PostHad the same thought (having only played it once in person and once online to be fair), I don't mind it taking out the arithmetic at the end but there's some magic to the ambiguity and sense of tension that's lost.
Show PostThere are games where knowing everyone's exact score round by round is essential - where a core part of the game is reading the game state, watching for when someone is about to hit the winning threshold, knowing when to rush the end trigger or play to your outs. But others benefit from fuzz.
Show PostI very much appreciate fuzzy scoring in games where you're building something, even when all the necessary information is technically open & available on the table. Players can get a loose impression of how they're doing, but mainly you're focused on your own project, & taking pleasure in it.
Show PostI'm struck by how different Forest Shuffle feels when you know everyone's exact score round by round. On BGA you can have it tot up scores as you go, & I find myself focusing on the point differential rather than building a lovely forest. It's fine, but it feels like a different game.
