Launched in late 1980 and named after a type of eel, the Murena was the successor to the earlier Matra Bagheera, retaining that car's distinctive three-abreast seating. As well as the 2.2-litre version, at launch there was also a more basic 1.6-litre model with Talbot Solara engine and steel wheels.
