The "Mary Sue" trope originated with adults mocking women written by primarily adolescent female authors. It exists to stifle women's creativity and enjoyment and to punish authors for daring to write female power fantasies. You never need to lend that trope any legitimacy.

I stand by the fact that if applied to men characters equally, every anime protagonist is guilty of Marty Stuism. But no one ever applies it to anime, except magical girl animes. I wonder if that's connected too.
