To be the only actual left-wing party in Assembly. A true left-wing party wouldn't chose a strike-breaker like PKP as its leader, which the PQ had done.

Ontario forms a plurality of Canadians, there really wouldn't be any resentment that could lead to a separatist movement here. If Ontario somehow left, the ROC would probably just fall apart. Quebec knows that if it votes PQ, separatism isn't guaranteed. Without a federalist left option, PQ can win

PQ is one of the few left-wing parties in Quebec, aside from the further left QS. The majority of Quebecers may not be separatist, but they re still pretty nationalist, and it seems they are increasingly tired of right-wing parties, whether nationalist or federalist.
