But I did see someone a few weeks ago on teacher reddit whose principal actually expects to be able to walk in every classroom on the grade level and hear the same words at the same time like we're robots. I have to wonder how much time that admin did in an actual classroom.
Show PostI feel bad even doing it during standardized testing: especially because the instructions aren't always clear to kids and we're not supposed to go off script if they have questions. I can't imagine doing it for my everyday lessons. Insane.
Show PostFor novice teachers especially, they need structure and routines. The omnipresent danger is the one you roughly flag, used poorly they can become crutches that supplant judgment and thinking about the “why?” of a lesson. Gotta combine both.
Show Postit can be difficult to explain to someone who’s not had the experience of teaching 5 daily 40-minute sections of 34 students how useful some routines can be, and how different that is and should be from going on autopilot
Show PostLooks like I’m gonna have to dust off my old Deans for Impact hat to explain why instructional routines are great, but scripted lessons absurd, huh?
