A local guy started a write-in campaign for a local office even though he easily could have just run for the office in the first place, but he didn't, explicitly because he would have had to pay a small filing fee. no one ever tell me participating in local politics "isn't worth it" this is amazing.

Stuff like this really brings out my libertarian tendencies. I loathe this behaviour as much as the next person – but not sure I think headphone police fining people more than they get fined for far more serious offences is the answer.
