In conclusion, words have meanings. Lines of code spitting out probabilistic responses to queries is not slavery. Telling people they have to pay taxes isn't slavery. Being told to wear a mask during a pandemic isn't slavery. People who endured slavery are PEOPLE. They suffered. I reiterate: hands.
Show PostWhen you engage with people who experienced slavery as real, flesh-and-blood individuals, if you have any empathy at all it will churn your stomach and make you question a great many things about the world as it was and is.
Show PostFor example, Columbus's initial reaction upon landing in the Americas was to view the indigenous inhabitants as a resource to be harvested on future voyages, and even weighed potential death rates during the crossing and their impact on profitability. Show PostSlavery was and is a real thing that has brutalized hundreds of millions of people over the course of human history, if someone tells me a fucking chatbot is enslaved I'm immediately throwing hands. It's not cute, it's not intriguing, it's an insult to real people who suffered and suffer now.
