Even for a mostly US audience, maybe it’s good for them to hear that certain things are very different elsewhere. Maybe it’s absolutely terrible if they think that the state of things worldwide is mostly as it is in the USA.
Show PostSo many people broadly proclaiming “getting an EDS diagnosis is useless”. Where I live, you get access to specialist pain clinics, free supportive wear, ongoing specialist care & a bunch of stuff you can apply for upon diagnosis of EDS. Some places offer in-home assistance to autistic people.
Show PostSo many “a history of X” videos that start & end in the US, despite X existing for hundreds of years elsewhere. “This is unregulated…” often it is regulated in many places. Don’t even get me started on statistics or healthcare advice. “An autism DX gets you no help!” it does in some places.
Show PostI think it’s important for creators & writers to specify when they mean “in the US”. If you’re making content in English, it’s going to be seen worldwide. We talk a lot about media literacy but writers also have some responsibility of clarity.
Show PostUS-centrism isn’t just annoying, it’s dangerous. The amount of US-specific information that my brain absorbs every day is incalculable. And when most of it doesn’t actually apply where I live, that leads to a kind of epistemic alienation.
