Agreed, but I cannot figure out to explain to people how that is *not* a defense of her. Like Trump, intent is irrelevant if you do great harm with power!

Okay I saw The Movie, and I think I'm on team She's Not Really A Manipulator - she seems too spacy and socially unaware to be any good at it.

She's most definitely a liar, and probably an adept confabulator, but it's hard to imagine a person who is confused by a comedy routine spinning a masterful web of deception.

Her original fraud wasn't particularly sophisticated: she said a machine worked, and a bunch of people who wanted to believe her were credulous about it and gave her money. There wasn't any kind of exit strategy, even - it only made sense if she really believed it would work eventually.
