Efforts to standardize or mechanize teaching are just a dodge, a short cut that avoids the long, challenging, but infinitely more rewarding journey of building teacher capacity. The easy path attracts opportunists and snake oil salesmen. The hard road leads to genuine education.

Consistently, if I’m in a public space and hear someone watching videos on their phone at full volume without headphones, I will turn and see that the offender is at least 60 years old.
