Being able to read and write English to a good standard matters. Being able to memorise WW1 poetry or analyse the mood swings of Hamlet may be less relevant for a physics degree.

It looks cute on you, and I'm impressed you made a fly! I often have a problem of skirts and pants with an elastic waist fitting fine when I make them and then getting looser as I wear them, and I usually fix it with a lazy dart through the back. Not perfect but it works, and nobody's ever noticed!
