Bought several acres then subdivided, sold some lots and raised enough cash to build a small house. She did marry a third time, but he didn’t have any money. She put him to work helping build the house. Her big splurges were a RED car and her knitting machine, her rototiller & that washer & dryer.

I don’t know how my grandmother did what she did. She was orphaned at 11, dropped out of sixth grade to work as a farm hand to support herself. She was widowed twice by the time she was 30. Raised two sons plus an orphaned boy thru the Great Depression. Worked in a factory to support them.
