I flew in the Pacific Prowler Mitchell for an afternoon over Sugarland TX in the tailgunner bubble. It really drove home just what tough people flew missions in those things. Anything at all goes wrong in the tail or the tiny tunnel to it, you're instantly dead. Full time on your knees crouching.
Show PostIt was known as a “hot” ship due to the control aspects. The 26 was also deployed for forest fire suppression. Personally, I feel the 25 Mitchell was more substantial, especially when the bombardiers Compartment was altered into an eight 50 cal machine gun monster that raked Japanese ships.
