I had the honour of appearing and presenting oral argument at the Supreme Court of Canada yesterday, on behalf of the @bccla.bsky.social intervening in Facebook Inc v Privacy Commissioner of Canada. A central issue was whether FB obtained valid consent under PIPEDA to disclose user data to 3P apps.

Makes the case resoundingly that PIPEDA isn't meant to "balance", because privacy is a human right whc clearly outweighs commercial interests, and proposes a better approach:
