It doesn't help that the formal experts in Ottoman history in the West tend to be orientalist in the sense of fetishizing it. I once had to sit through, as a "DEI" session, a lecture on how the history of Ottoman Palestine was harmony and rainbows until the British Empire deployed the Zionism.
