I think purging DEI was a good decision. Not you are hired on the basis on merit and skill alone. Unfortunately women are physically weaker than men so jobs that require intense physical conditions will have less women. But that's a good thing, the strong women who have worked to get there thrive

I'd rather have 90 strong men and 10 strong women than 50 strong men and 50 women of varying skill levels. DEI is nothing more than a quota to fulfill and doesn't have its place in a field where lives are at risk and/or need to be protected
