𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘦: news from the 'fellowship of the ring'👇 #MicroSky
Show PostOkay this one’s gonna be controversial. In our new preprint, we show that the canonical #Klebsiella pneumoniae 🦠 virulence factors and strain lineage are decoupled from infection severity and patient outcomes. This was a surprise to us #IDSky #KlebClub #MicroSky 🧪 www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6...
Show Post1. This was to treat a persistent E. coli infection. 2. Note just the phage RBP was designed, not a genome. 3. The question would be if the designed phage infects the target strain better than preexisting phages. Skeptical, but they write: "the bacteria had resisted ... all the available phages."
Show PostI also suspect the truly meaningful control, of just like copying the exact RBD of a prophage from the closest related strain to the target and testing that, might be missing...
Show PostThey say they'll publish on it in the future, and it will certainly be interesting to read the science... my guess is that the designed RBD must be very similar to a naturally occurring prophage of this strain (I think this is prompted by a phage host clade taxonomy tag, like the evo2 phages)
