March 31, 1926: A prototype Polikarpov DI-1, the first Soviet-built two-seat fighter plane, crashes during a test flight over Khodynka airfield in Moscow. The pilot and observer are killed and design is halted on this type of plane after it's found the wings were weakly glued together.
