I'd love to know if they know they are a net negative for the world or If they somehow convinced themselves that they are not the problem in those companies. But listening to those AI Doom/Booster Cults, I'm nearly certain that they all accidentally brainwashed themselves somehow.

That's my experience anyways. I spent 15 years contracting and got to see a _lot_ of dysfunction lol. And a good number of companies that were a pleasure to work at too, of course. Could very well be that freelancing may bias towards dysfunctional companies.

Well and that's just the thing. When _that_ guy starts being a jackass, everybody in the trenches basically has to just tolerate it unless someone with rank does something about it. More often than not, they don't; they make excuses for it, say their hands are tied, etc. So good on you.
