Too lazy to pull up old Sanborn maps right now, but does anybody actually know *why* there's that whole series of postwar front-surface-parking-lot retail structures on the south edge of Diversey between Wilton and Lincoln? One big urban renewal spree at one point, or piecemeal redevelopment?

A good start if it makes it through zoning approval. Even better would be replacing the dumb strip mall + parking lot situations on the south side of the street directly on each edge of the station. There's no excuse for such lackluster land use there.
