The 35K premature deaths being estimated for the 2026 summer heat in Europe would make the heat wave the 6th deadliest in world history. Note, though, this list misses recent heat waves in India/Pakistan that preliminary research shows should be on the list.

I don’t think people realize how big an area is experiencing its hottest water temps ever recorded. 90% of the W. #Mediterranean and ~3/4ths of the nearby E. Atlantic are experiencing record warm sea surface temps (in magenta) This simply does not happen without human-caused climate change 1/
