My theory is that these dudes get so used to people telling them how right they are that they truly believe they have the only solutions to the world’s problems, so see stroking Trump as a means to their own vision of what the world should be.

It seems to me modern communication technology makes the intense organization & mobilization of such brownshirt militias less needful since a tweet is now enough to achieve all that's needed: coordinating a sufficient quantum of violent threat to intimidate enemies & keep allies in line.
