#PloverAppreciationDay late entry This group of Snowy Plovers seen near the UC Santa Barbara breeding zone beach. Even knowing what we were looking for these little birds, we still kept almost walking into them. They blended in perfectly until they would move. None were harmed. #Birds

🐦🐊 For #PloverAppreciationDay, a tale from BHL. This “Egyptian Plover & Crocodile” illustrates the ancient story that plovers entered crocodiles’ mouths to eat leeches & insects. The book called the tale “strictly true.” Modern evidence disagrees. 📚 🧪 www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography...

Happy Plover Appreciation Day! Don’t be deceived. Plovers are the coolest birds. Even they know it. Pretending to be injured is just one of their deception strategies to enhance their breeding success. If you’ve fallen for it, you’re a poor predator #PloverAppreciationDay #shorebirds #waders

I just found out it’s #PloverAppreciationDay! I really, really appreciate plovers at all times. Small and cute and in need of our support because their habitat is threatened. That’s why this one is wearing some jewelry, to help track and monitor them. (Piping Plover at the NJ coast) #birds 🌿
