But I'm pretty smart. Maybe even smarter than the aliens.
Show Postnot in a "this supposition is incoherent" way but in an "if the aliens can run the universe through a state machine and predict exactly what I can do, how can we even make sense of the idea that I am making decision that can be rationally evaluated?" way
Show PostI guess, the last thing I want to say here, is this: simple exanations are basically always wrong at some level when it comes to biology, and quadruply so when it comes to brains, identity, and cognition. Biology makes things weirder and cooler than we can ever imagine! 😁
Show PostAnyway, the most immediate use of this finding is that we FINALLY have a way to grow new motor neurons, which opens up huge potential pathways for research on and maybe the treatment of Lou Ghereg's and Parkinsons Diseases in the future.
Show PostIt also explains why people can survive *devastating* levels of brain damage some places (the forebrain) but almost any damage elsewhere (the hindbrain) is invariably fatal. If those organs are made of separate cell types, it's natural that their ability to adapt to damage would be different.
