I worry that the persuasion ability may go both ways
Show PostThe evidence points to LLMs being good at persuasion. Do we have any evidence that they're less effective at talking people *into* false beliefs?
Show PostOkay, but like the person you're QT'ing as proof for this immediately followed up to explain: "Actually, the AI just made them blame the Jews instead." I feel like that's NOT better? Otherwise, "People stupid enough to fall for FoxNews will also fall for SlopMachines" doesn't seem like news.
Show PostI think that it is good for people to get out of false or conspiratorial thinking, but I am worried about the psychological mechanism at work here that makes people willing to trust the bullshit engine and externalize judgement to a machine instead of trusting researchers and experts
Show PostI'm not saying the term "agent" was chosen as a means to diminish the importance of understanding and protecting our own human agency but I'm also not /not/ saying it.
