Caine chosing to become a better person and giving up the bad habits that harmed other around him is what made his arc so compelling in the first place. Having him killed off and never to be seen again just leaves him as an obstacle in the way of the cast instead of a person.

This is something I've been investigating for a good while. It seems that the fandom never really accepted Caine as a main character or a member of the group, and probably won't after 9 either. Maybe because he's an AI or they feel he's annoying. No idea why. I have a story to share about this.
