I did not recognize this as an opportunity. I stayed clammed up & got out of there as fast as I could. But once my fight/flight reflex settled (about five years later, aha) I thought "what a thoughtful, committed teacher." He really tried, where others had let me coast. And yes, it was a B+ essay.
