Like yeah these are two institutions the country is proud of and are two ways the state most directly interacts with the public so seeing it reject the very core of who you are as a trans person and being actively hostile really feels alienating

I was talking to my therapist about the BBC transphobia and the NHS transphobia and she pointed out a great fact which is that of course this feels deeply destabilising and hurtful cause the NHS and BBC are so intertwined with what makes Britain Britain

I have friends who are getting worse care from the NHS because they're trans. We're talking misdiagnosed fractures. When you make a community medically marginalised you make them impossible to treat. The UK government has done this to trans people knowing it will lead to negative health outcomes.
