Setting out for a dog walk just after 4pm, i didn’t expect that going through autopilot motion to kick something out rank grass would give anything, let alone this! CHESTNUT BUNTING. Massive thanks to team effort- DC, MGP, RF helping pin down and nail ID, against the clock before sundown! 1/2

Purple Martin, Lewis, Sept 2004 Another dodgy old rarity shot of mine but what a bird... the sole British record of this N American species & present at a remote locality for just 24 hrs or so, so seen by few. #BirdsA-Z #twitching

#Patchbirding walk in better weather this evening. Not one but TWO BARN OWLS this evening hunting the same rural Godinton Park field. Not had that sight on the patch before. GC Grebe still in residence at Singleton Lake. #Godinton #SingletonLake

Ptarmigan, Cairn Gorm, March 2010 Such is their remoteness, I have only seen 6 of these in nearly 40 yrs' birding - on 2 dates and at just one location. This grouse mountaintop specialist is in trouble with climate change as the snow line retreats higher. One day we may lose them. #BirdsA-Z #birding
