Show PostHere's Katie Noble, the winner of 2026's Early Career Microbiologist of the Year prize, talking after her win on Tuesday🏆 We agree with Katie that all the finalists' talks were exceptional and a massive well done to everyone involved!
Show PostConfirmed in post 🎉 passed probation and made permanent at Queen’s, woohoo! (Perhaps not the usual sense of relief given the current HE environment…. But nice nonetheless)
Show PostThe exception to this can be counted on one or maybe two hands like the work by Tristan Caro, Jen Pett-Ridge, Victoria Orphan, Bruce Hungate, and others… but that’s like one or two or three studies on a particular sample type (soil, importantly). We need a baseline understanding of all habitat types
Show PostAgree! Not only how fast but why they are growing at that rate. There are dozens of factors that set envt'l rates. As pro-cultivation as I am, lab growth is completely artificial and the max (or even sub max) rates observed are loosely (at best) related to what is happening in the environment.
