When I first started coming out, I was kind of passive with it. I was generally like, "you can use whatever pronouns you want for me, it's fine," but that was less that I was okay with he/him and more bracing myself because I was nervous people would default to those regardless of what I said.

That cautious uncertainty when one first comes out is really common. There's often an impulse to not be too much of a "burden" on others, so you might couch it "if you want"s I did some of that when I first came out tbh But yeah soon enough the confidence comes and the impulse to be smaller fades
