I've been encountering this with a LOT of titles at work lately and it seems like a lot of things are getting an initial run and then immediately switching to pod?! bc we'll get them in via corporate hq when they're first published and then not be able to restock them.. infuriating
Show PostNo. if a writer has a contract w/ a specified royalty rate, that’s what they get no matter if the book is POD or not. It probably just helps the publishers with an initial outlay of money for a print run. That is, not going into debt before orders come in, etc.
Show PostCost-saving if they don’t want to invest in a print run and warehouse storage and/or a stopgap in between print runs
Show PostOftentimes it’s set up as a “when inventory falls below X, print Y copies” scenario
Show PostOther readers and writers? Thoughts? I see this a lot now, as well. I’m sure it’s some sort of cost-saving measure on a publisher’s part, yes?
