Show PostLast week, I started as a new fellow with @ucanrwater.bsky.social, where I previously spent a decade. I am grateful for the support of everyone @ucanr.edu and the Climate Science and Communications Fund. Nice to be back!
Show PostThx for posting this. We had several students in attendance and they were impressed in a good way with your scicomm and the clarity of your explanations and in less of a good way with how things might be looking around here during the winter
Show PostAn incredible deep-dive must-read for California! The ECMWF ensemble says most coastal CA locations have ~10-20% risk of a record-wet winter. King tides will be >1-2' above normal, and a strong storm during the king tides could "produce widespread damaging, and probably historic, coastal flooding."
Show PostIncredible effort, Daniel! Your 2022 paper gave a recurrence interval of an ARkHist megastorm (less rain than 1861-62, but more than recent wettest winters) costing 10s of biliions of ~1%. Does 2026's ~20x higher risk of a record-wet season (and/or record-wet months) imply a 20% risk of an ARkHist?
