I beg anyone who is not a teacher and chooses to write about teaching to stop and reflect upon the best and worst teachers that they had and what made them so before they share their ideas with the world.

Notably the other field here that involves the lives of human beings does not actually claim to run on a script. Surgeons have to improv and troubleshoot all the time. No one is saying that teachers shouldn't follow established procedures and pedagogy. That's not the same thing as a script.

I want Dale to give the same sheet music to a middle school band, a college marching band, and the Vienna Philharmonic and have him say there is no distinction between them. And if there is a distinction, what accounts for that if there is no difference in what's on the page?
