Really remarkable stats. The point about senior posts surprised me. I can envisage a situation in 10-20 yrs time where e.g. endowed professorships continue to advertise, but the cohort of research-focussed mid-career people ready to step up is basically non-existent. Academic quality will collapse.

I am not dunking on the piece, those are good recommendations. But we have fought for smaller classes, lower teaching loads and in-person teaching since forever. It turns out that the majority of solutions we need are not special: they are just HE common sense.
