The DOJ on Friday subpoenaed 4 @nytimes.com reporters who exposed security concerns about the Qatari-gifted Air Force One. The subpoenas — some delivered by federal agents at reporters’ homes — mark an escalation of the Trump administration’s intimidation campaign against independent media.

Jay Clayton is Trump’s nominee to serve as Director of National Intelligence. As the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan, he just issued a subpoena to the New York Times over its Air Force One reporting - a brazen act intended to intimidate a free press. We can imagine how he’d abuse his power as DNI.

NY Tmes exec editor Joe Kahn said in 2024 that the issue of democracy's survival was not a top priority in his newsroom's coverage. Now Trump is sending federal agents to NYT reporters' homes to deliver subpoenas over coverage he doesn't like. I wonder if democracy is a priority for Joe now.

The reporting that the Times journalists have been subpoenaed for is exactly the kind of journalism the First Amendment is designed to protect: matters involving national security and taxpayer dollars. Reporting that embarrasses a president is protected speech.
