It takes skill and experience for a double edged sword to mean what it's known for. Cuz me if I'm holding a sword none of my body is contemplating being anywhere near any potential sword edge.

"Doubled edge sword" oh you mean something that is just as risky to me as any sword but now you're going to treat me as if I'm brave and maybe reckless? No thanks!

I kinda agree, in my mind "double edged sword" means both sides are cutting & harmful- like war is a double edged sword, both sides will shed blood...Im convinced the NTs came up with some idioms to seem deep & introspective 🤣
