Again I think this is in large part bc Republicans and Independents in blue and purple states are somewhat shielded from the worst effects of Trump policies by their state govts while also being able to blame Dems for the parts that do affect them, keeping the blue-state races closer.

To the extent columns exist mainly to air editorial/columnist anxieties, you do get a pretty funny progression from “affirmative action is bad” (my kids are applying for college soon) to “the woke campus mob” (my kids disagreed with me/dyed their hair) to this (my kids wont talk to me)

I'd argue that you could get a lot of value out of A. Creating an automatic withholding system for contractors. B. Systemically overtaxing W-2 employees so they always get a refund during "tax season" (the government sending you a summary and a *paper* check)
