New open access paper studying the political knowledge effects on state level policy of issue public membership (caring about some particular issue). They find that issue public membership can mitigate political knowledge gaps between traditionally advantaged & disadvantaged groups, but modestly.

A particular reason this choice is disappointing is that with new LLM research tools, we can ask respondents in open response items what issues they care about and adapt the questions they get subsequently to reflect what they say. @yamilrvelez.bsky.social does something like this here:
